M. Track & Field: School record falls at Cerritos Invitational

At the Cerritos Invitational on Saturday, a 24-year Cerritos College men's track and field record came crashing down. In the 110-meter HH, freshman Juan Ward posted a first place time of 14.36, which set a new school record, breaking the 1991-mark of 14.39 that was set by Keith Pouncey. Hot on his heels in the race was sophomore Mackenzi Rickman (Carson HS), who's second place time of 14.43 tied him for the third fastest time in school history.

It was one of seven first place finishes turned in by the Falcons on the day. Rickman came back in the 400-meter IH and turned in a first place time of 55.39, with Ward in third place at 56.55. Sophomore Anthony Lozano (La Serna HS) won a pair of events, as he captured the 1500 meters in 3:57.44 and then won the 3000 meters with a time of 8:41.46. Sophomore Chris Ramirez (California HS) recorded a third place time in the 1500 meters at 4:04.28, with sophomore Donaldo Lopez in fifth place and freshman Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS) in sixth place. Ramirez also ran the 3000 meters and came in fifth place at 8:54.94.

Sophomore thrower Matthew Seawright (Long Beach Millikan HS) earned a win in the discus with a distance of 49.37 and saw his distance of 53.56 meters in the hammer and 13.91 meters in the shot put place him second place in both events. Freshman Andrew Hladek (Liberty, NV HS) tied for second place in the pole vault at 4.23 meters and came in fifth place with a javelin throw of 42.65 meters.

The 400-meter relay team of Clifford Scott (Carson HS), Virijilio Griggs (Warren, TX HS), Ricardo Thomas (Warren HS) and Prinz Singson (Cheyenne, WY HS) posted a first place time of 42.30 and used Scott, Thomas, Singson and Jalen Washington (Long Beach Poly HS) to won the 800-meter relay in a time of 1:30.77.

Griggs competed in the 400 meters and turned in a second place time of 49.16, with the foursome of Justin Reid (Lakewood HS), Colin Monaco (Long Beach Poly HS), Matthew Oyakawa (Fountain Valley HS) and Thomas posting a second place time of 3:24.49 in the 1600-meter relay.
