Sitting in fifth place in the standings with one event remaining, the Cerritos College men's track and field team scratched from the 4x400-meter relay at the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday. Spending all day in a driving rainstorm at San Mateo College, the Falcons saw South Coast Conference rival El Camino College come in third place in that final event, which enabled them to leapfrog over Cerritos in the team scoring. The Falcons ended the two-day state championships with 49 team points, which put them in sixth place, while the Warriors took fifth place with 53 team points. Riverside City College won the state championship with 111 team points, while conference foe Mt. San Antonio College was second with 73 points, with American River College (61 points) and College of the Sequoias (57 points) all finishing ahead of Cerritos.

Highlighting the weekend was the performance of sophomore Daniel Stokes (Diamond Ranch HS/Mt. San Antonio College), who won the championship in the 400 meters with a time of 46.60, while he also picked up eight team points with a second place time of 21.39 in the 200 meters. Also posting a second place finish was sophomore Kendall Turner (Hesperia HS/Mt. San Antonio College) in the 100 meters with a clocking of 10.50, while the 4x100-meter relay team of Stokes, Christian Shakir-Ricks (Murrieta Mesa HS), Trevor Reid (Notre Dame HS/Mt. San Antonio College) and Turner placed second with a time of 40.84.

Of the 16 entries at the state championships, 10 of them earned team points which helped the Falcons to their sixth place team finish.
