Playing a tight game against Cal Tech in their tournament on Friday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team earned some breathing room late in the game and went on to post a 16-12 win on Friday. The game, played at Pasadena City College, was the only one in the tournament for the Falcons (4-4), who chose not to play a conference opponent that they were originally slated to face. The team will host Mt. San Antonio College in a South Coast Conference match at 4:15 p.m. next Wednesday.

Cerritos held a three-goal lead in the third period, but the Beavers (5-5) closed the gap to within one goal. But a pair of tallies by sophomore Alberto Gonzalez (Montebello HS) and another from freshman Felix Gonzalez (Montebello HS/Mt. San Antonio College) put the team up by four goals in the fourth period.

As is customary by the Falcons, six different players scored at least one goal, with the team's defense holding their opponents to limited shots. Sophomore Jesus Munoz (Montebello HS/College of Norte Dame (OH) came up with seven steals on the day, while sophomore David Lumbreras (Downey HS) accounted for six steals.

Sophomore Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS), with four goals, joined Alberto Gonzalez, who had five goals, as the team leaders offensively. Felix Gonzalez finished with three goals, with freshman goalie Grant Jimenez (Cerritos HS) came up with five saves in goal.
