Although they beat two teams that have advanced to the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the Cerritos College men's water polo team wasn't able to win the one game they needed to be selected. When the 10 teams were selected to advance to the playoffs, the Falcons saw that they had wins over both Riverside City College and Fullerton College and a one-goal loss to Orange Coast College. But their 11-10 loss to Mt. San Antonio College in the semifinals of the South Coast Conference Tournament effectively knocked them out of contention for the post-season. Cerritos (21-9) did rebound to finish their season with a 14-7 win over Chaffey College to finish in third place.

The seeding process states that the standings based after the conference tournament dictate the order in which teams are eligible to be selected for the post-season. Even though the Falcons had a better record than Mt. SAC (12-17), their loss meant the only way Cerritos could make the playoffs would be after the Mounties were selected, which they weren't.

In the final win over Chaffey, freshman Felix Gonzalez (Montebello HS) led the team with four goals, while the trio of sophomores Jesus Munoz (Montebello HS/Notre Dame (OH) University), Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS) and Alberto Gonzalez (Montebello HS/Mt. San Antonio College) each scored twice. Sophomore Max Gomez (Whittier HS) recorded five assists to give him 57 on the year. That total ties for the fifth most in a season in school history.

Freshman Kevin Rubio (La Serna HS) recorded seven steals, with Alberto Gonzalez adding six steals. Sophomore Andrew Javier (Cerritos HS) added a pair of steals to give him 82 on the year, which is the second most in a season in school history. His 95 career steals rank him sixth on the school's all-time list.
