M. Water Polo: Falcons alone in first place in conference

The Cerritos College men's water polo team won their third straight South Coast Conference on Wednesday, as they defeated LA Trade-Tech College, 20-2. With the win, the Falcons are 3-0 in conference play and 9-5 on the year. They will compete in the Saddleback Tournament this weekend, as they open with the host Gauchos on Friday at 9:20 a.m. and then play a 2:00 p.m. game against El Camino College. Saturday games include meetings against Santa Monica College at 9:10 a.m., and finish with a 1:30 p.m. game against Chaffey College.

Sophomore Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS) led the way for the Falcons, as he scored five goals, with nine different players accounting for at least one goal. All three of the team's goalies rotated between playing in the field and in the net, as sophomore Pedro Rodriguez (Downey HS) turned away seven shots, while freshman Grant Jimenez (Cerritos HS) scored twice, with sophomore Joseph Owens (Kennedy HS) making three saves, while scoring once and assisting on two goals.

Posting three goals each in the win were sophomores Carlos Abrego (Bell Gardens HS) and Jesus Munoz (Montebello HS/Notre Dame (OH) College), while sophomore Max Gomez (Whittier HS) assisted on three goals and sophomore Andrew Javier (Cerritos HS) led the defense with five steals. As a team, Cerritos had 20 steals, with 12 players registering at least one.
