M. Water Polo: Team wins final two games of tourney

In their final two games of the Golden West Tournament on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team picked up wins in both games. The Falcons (19-8) recorded wins over visiting American River College (16-3) and San Joaquin Delta College (13-6) and have now won six of their last seven games. The team will close out the regular season on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. when they host El Camino College in a South Coast Conference match.

Cerritos vs. American River: The Falcons opened up an early lead against the Beavers (6-13) and received goals from 10 different players. The duo of sophomores Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS) and Jesus Munoz (Montebello HS/Notre Dame (OH) College) each accounted for three goals, with sophomores Carlos Abrego (Bell Gardens HS) and Alberto Gonzalez (Montebello HS/Mt. San Antonio College) both scoring twice. Defensively, sophomore Andrew Javier (Cerritos HS) had a game-high seven steals, while freshmen Kevin Rubio (La Serna HS) and Felix Gonzalez (Montebello HS) both added three steals. Sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Rodriguez (Downey HS) had four steals and made two blocks in the win.

Cerritos vs. San Joaquin Delta: It was a close 2-1 game after the first period, but the Falcons scored six times in the second, compared to just two for the Mustangs (10-7) for an 8-3 lead at halftime. The two teams played a fairly even game in the second half, but Cerritos held a comfortable lead. Alberto Gonzalez and sophomore David Lumbreras (Downey HS) each scored three times in the win, with sophomore Max Gomez (Whittier HS) assisting on four of the team's goals. Rubio recorded two goals, three assists and four steals, while freshman goalkeeper Grant Jimenez (Cerritos HS) turned away 12 shots.
