The Cerritos College men's water polo team won three of their four games at the San Diego Mesa Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons (8-5) opened with a 13-6 win over San Diego Miramar and then dropped a 14-6 decision against Grossmont on the first day. They followed that up with wins over Santa Monica (17-10) and then 14-8 win over the host Olympians. Cerritos will travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech on Wednesday for a 4:15 p.m. South Coast Conference match.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Miramar: In the win over the Jets, 10 different players scored for the Falcons, while all three goalies saw time in the field, as they rotated positions. Sophomores Carlos Abrego (Bell Gardens HS) and Andrew Jimenez (Cerritos HS) each scored a pair of goals to lead the offense, while freshman goalie Grant Jimenez (Cerritos HS) played in the field and also added two goals, while making five saves in his time in the net. Sophomore goalies Pedro Rodriguez (Downey HS) and Joseph Owens (Kennedy HS) also made contributions, with Owens stopping four shots, while Rodriguez handed out four assists.

Cerritos vs. Grossmont: It was a slow start to the game for the Falcons, who trailed 5-2 after the first period and 9-2 at halftime. Abrego did lead the team with three goals in the loss, but 15 turnovers and 25 missed shots weren't enough to recover from. Sophomore Jesus Munoz (Montebello HS/Notre Dame (OH) College) had four steals and a pair of assists, with the duo of sophomores Max Gomez (Whittier HS) and Alberto Gonzalez (Montebello HS) both posted three steals. Jimenez made five saves in goal, with Rodriguez adding three saves and three steals.

Cerritos vs. Santa Monica: Unlike their game against Grossmont, this time the Falcons got out to a quick start and held a 5-0 lead after the first eight minutes. Freshman Felix Gonzalez (Montebello HS) had a team-leading four goals to pace the team, with Gomez contributing two goals, four assists an three steals. Sophomore David Lumbreras (Downey HS) accounted for two goals, three assists and two steals, with all three goalies seeing time in the net and combined for 10 saves.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: The Falcons closed out the tournament with a win over the hosts, as Alberto Gonzalez scored four times and drew four ejections. Munoz was solid on defense, making six steals to go along with his four assists on the offensive end, while Abrego, Lumbreras, Gomez and sophomore Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS) all scored twice. Lumbreras also had four steals, with the duo of Gomez and Felix Gonzalez each posting three assists.
