The Cerritos College men's water polo team won both of their games at the Santa Monica Tournament on Friday. The Falcons (16-7) opened with a thrilling 8-7 win over Fullerton and followed that with a 15-5 decision over San Diego Mesa College. Next weekend, the team will serve as one of the hosts of the Golden West Tournament and will take on Riverside City (10:15 a.m.) and Orange Coast (2:30 p.m.) on Friday. Cerritos will then play American River (7:45 a.m.) and San Joaquin Delta (1:15 p.m.) on Saturday.

After Fullerton called timeout, the Falcons played tight defense and freshman Felix Gonzalez (Montebello HS) came up with a steal with :10 seconds left to seal the victory. Cerritos was able to run out the clock to record the important win. The goal by Alberto Gonzalez was his lone tally of the game, with sophomore David Lumbreras (Downey HS) scoring twice to lead the way. Freshman goalie Grant Jimenez (Cerritos HS) came up with nine saves and was a key on defense, as he made five steals. Sophomore Andrew Javier (Cerritos HS) also had five steals, with sophomore Jesus Munoz (Montebello HS/Notre Dame (OH) College) finished with three.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: Sophomore Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS) led another balanced scoring effort with four goals, while the trio of Lumbreras, Alberto Gonzalez and freshman Kevin Rubio (La Serna HS) all scored twice. As a team, the Falcons distributed the ball very well, as they had assists on 12 of their goals, with Munoz and sophomore Max Gomez (Whittier HS) each with three. Pedro Rodriguez (Downey HS) saw most of the action in goal and posted 10 saves.
