M. Cross Country: Eighth place finish for Falcons in Fresno

Getting an early look at the course that will be used for the state championships in November, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in eighth place out of 19 teams at the Fresno Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons compiled 232 team points and saw four other Southern California teams finish ahead of them on the day. South Coast Conference rival Mt. San Antonio College came in second place behind College of the Canyons, who won the meet with 64 points.

Cerritos had 13 runners compete in the four-mile race, and were led by sophomore Francisco Ortiz (Katella HS), who came in 30th place out of 201 runners and posted a time of 21:48.74. It was a race filled with tightly packed runners, with 21 runners finishing the course within one minute of the overall champion. Not too far behind was sophomore Anthony Lozano (La Serna HS), whose time of 22:02.24 put him in another pack of runners and earned him 40th place.

Francisco Ortiz came in 30th place at the Fresno Invitational Less than 20 seconds after Lozano completed the course, sophomore Donaldo Lopez (Gahr HS) posted a time of 22:21.79 to finished in 51st place, with another pack of runners finding sophomore George Robinson (Washington Prep HS) with a time of 22:39.57, which put him in 68th place overall. The fifth runner to comprise the team scoring was freshman Eric Sanchez (Katella HS) with a 76th place time of 22:48.53.

A pair of Falcon runners were not too far behind that time, with freshman Joshua Quarles (Cerritos HS) taking 79th place in 22:56.52, while freshman Daniel Garcia (Whittier HS) was clocked in 23:02.60 to finish in 82nd place. Other runners consisted of Alejandro Rios (Chino HS; 23:52.71; 113th place), Jorge Ayala (Artesia HS; 24:38.10; 134th place), James Yanez (Long Beach Wilson HS; 24:42.37; 137th place), Kevin Rodriguez (Whittier HS; 25:16.23; 159th place); Daniel Eid (Mayfair HS; 26:05.71; 173rd place); Anthony Perez (Bell Gardens HS; 26:22.44; 176th place).
