In their fourth meet of the season, the Cerritos College men's cross country team posted their fourth straight top 10 finish. The Falcons took eighth place at the Golden West Invitational on Friday after compiling 203 team points. They were edged out of seventh place by Orange Coast College, who finished with 200 points. College of the Canyons won the meet with 34 team points, with Cerritos also trailing behind South Coast Conference opponents Mt. San Antonio College (82 points) in second place and Los Angeles Trade-Tech College (181 points) in sixth place. The team will now travel to Arizona next Saturday for the Grand Canyon Invitational at Grand Canyon University.

With 197 entries running the four-mile course at Central Park in Huntington Beach, a pair of sophomores led the way for the Falcons. Anthony Lozano (La Serna HS), the team's top runner, completed the course in 20:37.0 to come in 12th place overall and edge a pair of runners from Canyons. Crossing the finish line barely ahead of a pair of runners was Francisco Ortiz (Katella HS), who finished in 16th place at 20:54.4 and was .08 of a second ahead of the next runner.

A :36-second dropoff before the next Falcon finisher enabled 30 runners to complete the race ahead of sophomore George Robinson (Washington Prep HS), whose time of 21:31.8 earned him 46th place, with freshman Eric Sanchez (Katella HS) clocking in at 21:41.3 for 56th place overall. The fifth runner to complete the team scoring was sophomore Donaldo Lopez (Gahr HS), as he took 77th place in 22:10.0.

Cerritos had seven others on the course, which included Joshua Quarles (Cerritos HS; 22:20.9; 81st place), James Yanez (Long Beach Wilson HS; 23:29.3; 131st place), Jorge Ayala (Artesia HS; 23:39.3; 137th place), Zacharie Ponce (Long Beach Poly HS; 23:43.2; 140th place), Ryan Lopez (Montebello HS; 24:27.9; 161st place), Marco Zaragoza (Artesia HS; 24:56.8; 171st place) and Daniel Eid (Mayfair HS; 25:39.6; 180th place).
