Getting an early look at the state championship course, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in 12th place at the Fresno Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons will host the Cerritos Invitational next Saturday at noon at Don Knabe Regional Park.
Leading the way for Cerritos was Jose Garcia Chavez (Norwalk HS), who posted a time of 22:34.4 over the four-mile course to finish in 25th place overall. He was edged out of 24th place by two-tenths of a second, while he pulled ahead of two others in the final mile for his placing. The next Falcon finisher was Jeff Chmiel (Lakewood HS), whose time of 23:59.0 put him in 58th place overall. He was followed :40 seconds later by Alan Diaz (Katella HS), as he posted a 68th place time in 24:39.4 and jumped ahead of five other runners with his strong fourth mile time.
Coming in 75th place overall was Aiden House-Ortiz (Lakewood HS), as he registered a time of 24:55.0, with Daniel Gomez (Santa Fe HS) closing out the team scoring with his 106th place time of 27:18.3. Also running for the Falcons were Angel Serrano (South Gate HS; 29:19.0; 110th place), Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS; 29:44.1; 113th place) and Jose Ortiz (Norwalk HS; 30:02.0; 114th place).
