Competing at the Manny Bautista Invitational in San Diego on Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team posted a 12th place finish out of 18 schools. As a team, the Falcons finished with 358 team points and were led by Jose Garcia Chavez (Norwalk HS).

Garcia Chavez completed the four-mile course in a time of 22:15.7 and held off four other runners to lock down the 57th overall spot out of 195 total runners. It took 50 seconds for the next Cerritos runner to cross the finish line, as Jeff Chmiel (Lakewood HS) posted an 87th place time of 23:05.5 Chmiel was part of a large group of runners that spread out in the final few yards, with second runners finishing within seven seconds of each other.

Next up for Cerritos was Aiden House-Ortiz (Lakewood HS), who saw his time of 23:27.5 put him in 100th place, as multiple groups of runners were fighting to pass other runners down the stretch. Alan Diaz (Katella HS) was part of another group of runners and posted a 121st place time of 24:16.9, with Colby Owens (Milford Mill Academy, MD HS) closing out the team scoring with his time of 25:51.8, putting him in 145th place.

Also running for the Falcons were Jose Ortiz (Norwalk HS; 26:48.8; 153rd place), Daniel Gomez (Santa Fe HS; 26:56.1; 155th place) and Angel Serrano (South Gate HS; 27:58.4; 166th place).

The team will travel to Santa Clara next Friday to run in the Bronco Invitational.
