Continuing their late-season run of nine games in 13 days, the Cerritos College softball team pulled out a 4-3, 11-inning South Coast Conference win at El Camino College on Saturday. The Falcons (24-12, 16-5), winners of six in a row and 11 of their last 13 games, will host Long Beach City College at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are tied for second place in conference action, with Cerritos winning the first two meetings. They handed the Vikings (24-11, 16-5) a 6-0 defeat on Friday.
In the top of the 11th inning, sophomore third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS) singled with one out and came home when Warriors center fielder Leesa Parral overran the ball after a Miranda Diaz (California HS) single and scored. Diaz, who advanced to second base on the play, was stranded, but the Falcons had another lead in extra innings.
Sophomore pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS), who came on in releif in the top of the fifth inning, recorded the first two outs of the 11th inning until she walked Viviana Tamayo. A single by Madilyn Radeke put runners on first and second base, while both were able to advance on a wild pitch. Islas (14-6) got Destiny Ostorga to line out to first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) for the final out of the game. The win for Islas was her fifth in the last six days. Freshman Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) started the game in the circle and limited El Camino to just one run on one hit, which was a leadoff triple by Kayla Inzunza, who came home to score on a sacrifice fly.
Cerritos took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning when Bedolla singled home Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) with two outs. Sotelo led off with a base hit and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by freshman outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS).
El Camino was able to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and looked to come away with the win in the 10th inning. With one out and runners and first and second base, Parral singled to left field, with Haile Torres looking to score the game-winning run. However, freshman Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) was able to throw her out at the plate, with freshman catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton HS) making the tag.
Bedolla went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI, while Sotelo was 2-for-5 and scored a pair of runs.
