Two-year starting centerfielder Alyssa Capps, who played a big role in the Cerritos College softball team advancing to the 3C2A State Championships, has signed with the University of Saint Katherine, a private NAIA college in San Marcos. A South Coast Conference Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore, Capps batted .282 on the season with three doubles, a triple and 13 RBI. She led the team with seven sacrifices and also drew 10 walks and tied for second on the team with 14 stolen bases. Also a solid defender, Capps posted a career .948 fielding percentage and registered six outfield assists.

In the Southern California Regional Playoffs, Capps drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single in the sixth inning in the third, and deciding, game of the series against Los Angeles Mission College. Additionally, in the fourth game of their 10-game winning streak heading onto the postseason, Capps clubbed a two-run triple in the fourth inning to help defeat conference rival El Camino College.

On the year, Capps had nine multi-hit games, which included a streak where she had hits in 10 of 11 games and went 14-for-27 (.519) and scored seven runs. She drove in a season-high three runs against Chaffey and went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, two runs scored and a walk.

Capps will be joining a Firebirds team that went 9-35 on the year and will look to her for a spark on the bases and in the outfield. This past season, the Firebirds stole 78 bases and will be able to utilize the speed of Capps
