The Falcons reached the finals of the Glendale Tournament

On Saturday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team played for the championship of the Glendale Tournament. The Falcons (5-2), who posted wins over both Santa Barbara City (66-50) and College of the Desert (49-41), took on state power Ventura College. The team played from behind the entire way and ended up losing, 73-55. Cerritos will now take a week off before competing in the College of the Sequoias Tournament, which gets underway December 3.

Cerritos vs. Santa Barbara City: The Falcons took an early lead, thanks to a balanced scoring attack, and then a tight defense help the Vaqueros to just three fourth quarter points. Sophomore guard Kennedi Cooper (Lakewood HS) led the team with 12 points off the bench, while the tandem of sophomores Verenice Gomez (Whittier HS) and Clarissa Hernandez (St. Paul HS) each finished with 11 points, with Hernandez dishing out five assists. Sophomore Sydney Lopez (Whittier Christian HS) also provided 10 bench points, with sophomore Miranda Valentin (Bellflower HS) adding nine points and four rebounds. The only weak part of the Falcons game was from the free throw line, where they converted just 9-of-20.

Cerritos vs. College of the Desert: Neither team shot the ball well in the semifinal game, but the Falcons were able to hold on for the win. Sophomore Ashley Flores (California HS) led the way with 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, with Hernandez and Gomez (eight rebounds) each scoring eight points. Lopez also pulled down eight rebounds to go with her seven points, while Valentin finished with six points.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: In the championship game, the Falcons just didn't have an answer for the Pirates offensive strengths, as they received four three-pointers from Carolyn Ruffino. Cooper, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led the way with 13 points, while Valentin poured in 10 points with seven rebounds off the bench. Hernandez hit a pair of three-pointers and contributed 10 points, with Flores finishing with five points and eight rebounds.
