Over the weekend, the Cerritos College women's basketball team traveled to Visalia to compete in the College of the Sequoias Tournament. The Falcons (7-4) played four games and recorded a pair of wins, and will now take two weeks off before they start the Orange Coast Tournament.

Cerritos vs. Chabot: Struggles with their shot put the Falcons behind from the early stages of the game. The team would never be able to recover and suffered a 74-51 setback. On the day, the team was only 19-of-70 from the field, while the Gladiators countered by shooting over 50% from the field. Although she was only 8-for-21 from the field, sophomore Jesenia Rendon (Carson HS) led the team with 24 points, which included a trio of three-pointers. The difference in the score allowed the reserves to get extended playing time and they accounted for 20 points and 15 rebounds, with sophomore Na'Lon Smith (St. Paul HS/Coffeyville (KS) CC) producing eight points, while sophomore Lynette Garcia (Downey HS/Park (MO) University) had six points.

Cerritos vs. Riverside City: Leading by 11 points at halftime (40-29), the Falcons held off a comeback by the Tigers to come away with a 78-74 win. Holding a 57-46 advantage heading into the final quarter, Cerritos fell behind, 64-63 with 3:56 remaining. Five straight points by Rendon gave the team a 69-64 edge with 2:44 on the clock, only to see Riverside make another run. With 1:56 left, the Tigers Dyani Brewer hit a three-pointer for a 70-69 RCC lead, only to have sophomore guard Gillian Yamasaki (South Torrance HS) come downcourt to score on a layup to regain the lead for Cerritos. One final lead change for Riverside was returned for the Falcons when Rendon converted a pair of free throws with :35 seconds left. Riverside made just one of their final four shots, with Smith and sophomore Serena Rendon (Carson HS) each converting a pair from the charity stripe to secure the win. Jesenia Rendon finished with 22 points, while Serena Rendon, who went scoreless in the previous game, added 17 points and seven rebounds. Garcia recorded 10 points and five rebounds off the bench, while freshman Jade Johnson (City of Angels HS) pulled down eight caroms.

Cerritos vs. Los Angeles Valley: Locked in another tight battle, the Falcons made good on their final three free throws to secure the 47-43 victory. Leading 45-43 with :15 seconds left, Garcia was fouled with :11 seconds remaining and calmly converted both free throws. The Monarchs took one final three-point attempt, but Serena Rendon blocked the shot to end the game. There were nine lead changes and nine ties in the game, with the Falcons making 11-of-12 free throws to help them in their cause. Jesenia Rendon led the team with 14 points, while Smith entered the starting lineup and produced a double-double with 10 points and as many rebounds. Garcia also finished with 10 points and six rebounds off the bench, with Serena Rendon adding seven points.

Cerritos vs. Pasadena City: In their final game of the tournament, the Falcons couldn't hold off a fourth-quarter charge by the Lancers, who came away with a 51-48 win. Leading, 37-26 with just the fourth quarter remaining, the Lancers came back to take the lead, thanks to shooting 59% from the field, while Cerritos shot 33% from the field and turned the ball over seven times. It took the Falcons 5:00 to score their first point in the fourth quarter, which tied the game at 39-39. They led, 43-41 after a Jesenia Rendon layup with 3:07 left, but saw the Lancers score 10 of the final 15 points. Jesenia Rendon led all scorers with 26 points and converted all nine free throws, with Smith posting 10 points in the loss.
