Cerritos College 3rd Team All-State selection Jesenia Rendon (Carson HS) has signed a Letter of Intent to play at Vanguard University next season. Rendon, who helped lead the Falcons to a share of the South Coast Conference South Division title and a 21-11 record, averaged 20.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game. In addition to her All-State honors, Rendon was voted the conference's Offensive Player of the Year after receiving 2nd Team all-conference honors as a freshman. A starter in 29 games this season, Rendon was a key member of a team that advanced to the 2nd Round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs before a loss to eventual state champion Moorpark College ended their season.
On the year, Rendon had 17 games where she scored over 20 points, which included a season-high 31 points in a winning effort against Grossmont College. Her efforts on the season also included a 27-point performance in a playoff game against Citrus College, while she posted at least 25 points six times, which included a stretch of three games where she accounted for 27, 28 and 29 points in consecutive games.
A threat from anywhere on the court, Rendon hit at least one three-pointer in 28 of the 29 games in which she appeared and drained a season-high six against Long Beach City College. She converted 69-of-209 three pointers on the year, while she netted 77% of her free throws (150-of-194).
In her two seasons, Rendon compiled 957 points, which ranks her seventh on the school's all-time scoring list (twin sister Serena ranks third with 1,045 points). Additionally, the 581 points scored on the year ranks her sixth in college history and she is just the fourth player in school history to average at least 20.0 points a game on the year.
Her sisters, Andrina and Marissa also played for the Falcons and both signed with Hope International University.
Rendon will be joining a Lions team that went 22-10 on the year and reached the finals of the GSAC Tournament, They received a NAIA Division I Tournament bid, but were defeated by Lyon College, 77-73 in the First Round.
