Competing for the first time this season, the Cerritos College wrestling team picked up wins in three of their four matches at the Bakersfield Duals. The Falcons posted victories over West Hills-Lemoore (35-13), East Los Angeles (36-12) and the host Renegades (25-12), while they suffered a 33-18 loss to Cuesta. The team will now compete in the Mt. San Antonio Duals on Saturday.

Cerritos vs. West Hills-Lemoore: The Falcons were aided by four wins by pinfall, while they saw sophomore 285-pound Jesse Gomez (Buena Park HS) escape the clutches of an early loss. Picking up six team points with their pins were sophomore 149-pound Voris Meeks (Yucca Valley HS), freshman 165-pound Dylan Moreno (Downey HS), freshman 184-pound Joel Villa (Citrus Hill HS) and 184-pound freshman Ryker Coppa (Marina HS). As for Gomez, he found himself on his back twice, but recovered and scored eight points in the third period for a 13-5 win. Freshman 133-pound Anthony Vargas (Citrus Hill HS) recorded a 13-3 win at 133 pounds, while sophomore Estevan Cabanas (Canyon Springs HS) competed in his first match since winning the state title in 2010, and posted a 13-1 win at 141 pounds.

Cerritos vs. Cuesta: There were 10 new Falcons competing against the Cougars, with four of them getting pinned. Freshman 285-pound David Eubanks earned a second-period pin for the team, with freshman Joshua Garcia (La Serna HS) dominating his 133-pound opponent to the tune of a 15-0 technical fall. Freshman Kody Davis (Chino Valley, AZ HS) won his collegiate debut with a 14-2 decision at 149 pounds, while freshman John Robles (Santa Fe HS) earned an 8-2 win at 184 pounds.

Cerritos vs. East Los Angeles: After a loss in his first match, freshman Kevin Pelligrini (Citrus Hill HS) rebounded with a first period pin at 125 pounds to get the Falcons started against the Huskies. Davis recorded a first period pin at 149 pounds, while freshman Jacob Collins (Calvary Chapel HS) earned a pin at 174 pounds, as did 285-pound Eubanks. Garcia scored his second straight win, a 10-2 score at 133 pounds, with freshman Richard Pocock (California HS) registering a 12-0 shutout at 141 pounds in his first action of the year. Robles picked up his second straight 8-2 win at 197 pounds.

Cerritos vs. Bakersfield: Moreno (165 pounds) and Coppa (184 pounds) helped the Falcons pull away from the Renegades with their pins, while Vargas earned four team points with his 16-7 triumph at 133 pounds. Cabanas (10-3) at 141 pounds and Meeks (5-0) at 149 pounds, gave Cerritos a 10-3 team score lead after four matches before the two pins gave the team a 12-point team lead. Gomez finished up the day with a 5-2 win at 285 pounds.
