On Saturday, the Cerritos College wrestling team won three of their four matches at the Mt. SAC Duals. The Falcons, the defending CCCAA State Champions, have now won six of their eight dual meets this season. Over the weekend, they incorporated a lot of different competitors to give as many on the roster some experience. It will continue this Saturday when the team travels to the West Hills-Lemoore Tournament.

Cerritos 29, West Hills-Lemoore 15: The Falcons opened with their second win of the season against the Golden Eagles. In the win, the duo of 133-pound Anthony Vargas (Citrus Hill HS) and sophomore 149-pound Voris Meeks (Yucca Valley HS) each earned wins by pinning their opponent. Freshman Ryker Coppa (Marina HS) earned the team five points with his 17-2 win at 174 pounds, while sophomores Estevan Cabanas (Canyon Springs HS) and Jesse Gomez (Buena Park HS) earned wins at 141 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively.

Cerritos 37, Modesto 9: In their second match of the day, the Falcons opened up a 22-0 team score lead and never looked back. Freshman Anthony Alldread (Los Alamitos HS) posted a pin at 133 pounds, as did 141-pound freshman Juan Salgado (Loara HS). In addition, the team earned two forfeit wins, while freshman Jacob Collins (Calvary Chapel HS) posted a 5-1 win at 174 pounds. Freshman 174-pound John Robles (Santa Fe HS) earned a 12-5 win, with freshman heavyweight David Eubanks held on for a 3-2 win at 285 pounds to finish off the match.

Cerritos 25, Palomar 21: Facing a fellow team from the Southwest Conference, the Falcons saw their 18-5 team lead become a 21-18 deficit with two matches remaining. But Coppa dropped down to 197 pounds and posted a convincing 17-7 win before Gomez clinched the victory with a 2-1 overtime win at 285 pounds. Vargas and Meeks recorded their second pins of the day at their respective weights, while freshman Kody Davis (Chino Valley, AZ HS) earned a 14-10 win at 157 pounds.

Cerritos 6, Rio Hondo 30: In their only loss of the day, the Falcons were defeated by three points or less in seven of their nine losses. Vargas came up short in a 7-6 decision at 133 pounds, with Valdez (4-2 at 125 pounds), Meeka (7-5 at 149 pounds) and sophomore Barry Gee (Fountain Valley HS/Santa Ana College), who dropped a 3-1 score at 285 pounds, were all defeated by just two points. The lone points in the match came as a forfeit at 197 pounds.
