With four individual champions and two second place finishes, the Cerritos College wrestling team compiled enough team points to win their second straight Southern California Championship. The Falcons, who went on to win the CCCAA State Championship last season, have advanced 10 wrestlers (out of a possible 12) to next weekend's championships at Fresno City College. The Falcons finished with 173 team points, which bested second place Mt. San Antonio, who compiled 161 points. Third place Palomar College had 152 points. In addition, head coach Donny Garriott was named the Southern California Coach of the Year.

125 Pounds - Sophomore Estevan Cabanas (Canyon Springs HS), who won the state championship at 125 pounds in 2010, was seeded #2 entering the tournament. He posted a 10-4 win over Pedro Sarabia of Bakersfield in his first match and then pinned Norman Abas of Bakersfield in 2:56 to reach the finals. In the championships, Cabanas was defeated, 5-3 by Gio Castillo of Mt. San Antonio College.

133 Pounds - The first of four individual champions was freshman Anthony Vargas (Citrus Hill HS), who escaped with an 8-6 win in his first match against Preston Gannon of Rio Hondo College. He regrouped to score a major decision against East Los Angeles College's John Robles, 14-2 and capped it off with a hard fought 2-1 win against Jake Schaeffer of Palomar College.

141 Pounds - The Falcons had two entries in this weight class, and qualified only freshman Richard Pocock (California HS), who came in fifth place. A loss in his first match dropped him to the consolation round, where he responded with a pin in 4:11 against Ernie Chambers of Palomar. Pocock defaulted the next match due to an injury and stepped up for a 2-0 win against Jesse Jaime of Mt. San Antonio to earn fifth place. The other competitor, sophomore Voris Meeks (Yucca Valley HS), was defeated, 6-0 in his first match and then lost an 8-5 decision and was eliminated.

149 Pounds - Second-seeded Kody Davis (Chino Valley, AZ HS) had a bye in the first round and then reached the semifinals with a 4-2 win over Tristan Steinman of Santa Ana. The freshman lost in the semifinals, 9-2 to Danny Lopez of Bakersfield College and then beat Landon Kim of Cuesta College, 6-4. In the third placd match, Davis was pinned by Brock Dias of West Hills College in 5:57 to finish in fourth place.

157 Pounds - The other double-entry weight for Cerritos resulted in both advancing to the state championships. Freshman Aaron Negrete (Calvary Chapel HS) showed why he was the top seed, as he breezed through three wins. A bye was followed by a pin over Monserrat Romero of West Hills in 1:05 and then an 11-3 semifinal win against Josh Cortes of Cuesta. In the championship match, Negrete defeated Jose Regama of Mt. SAC, 8-4. The other entry, freshman Dylan Moreno (Downey HS) earned fourth place. He won his first two matches, a pin in 6:59 and then an 8-7 victory over Landon Myers of Santa Ana. Moreno lost to Regama, 11-6 in the semifinals, but posted a 4-3 win to reach the third place match. His day concluded with an 11-8 loss to Luis Quintero of Cuesta.

165 Pounds - The lone entry, Jacob Collins (Calvary Chapel HS) dropped his two matches, 5-4 to second place finisher Roger Arce of Rio Hondo and then a 2-1 decision to Santa Ana's Arman Fayazzi and was eliminated.

174 Pounds - Freshman Joel Villa (Citrus Hill HS) opened with a pin over Victor Bryson of Cuesta in 4:35 and then earned a 16-0 technical fall against Alex Gallo of Palomar to reach the championships. He came up short against Lukas Basham of West Hills, who pinned him in 2:00.

184 Pounds - Opening with a loss to Will Thorton of Palomar, who pinned him in 2:06, freshman John Robles (Santa Fe HS) rebounded to win three straight matches to come in third place. The comeback started with a 7-5 win over Jorge Guerrero of East Los Angeles, which was followed with a 5-2 triumph of Santa Ana's Ty Freeman. In the third place match, Robles shut out Zack Mitchell of Bakersfield, 3-0.

197 Pounds - Last year's state runner-up, sophomore Oscar Martinez (Corona Centennial HS) won three matches to capture the SoCal title. He pinned Josh Escobedo of Rio Hondo in 2:15 and then posted a major decision over Ned Estrada of East Los Angeles, 12-2. In the championship match, Martinez pinned Mt. SAC's Nathan Arogon in 2:57.

285 Pounds - The team's other undefeated wrestler on the season, sophomore Jesse Gomez (Buena Park HS), was named the Champ of Champs at the tournament with three straight pins. The state runner-up from last season, opened with a pin of Bakersfield's Jason Dibble in 2:14 and needed 4:13 to pin Josh Davis of Bakersfield in the semifinals. In the championship match, Gomez pinned Andrew Cruz of Mt. SAC in 6:56.
