For the second time this season, the Cerritos College wrestling team finished second place at a tournament. On Saturday, the Falcons won three weight classifications and finished with 96.5 team points, which put them behind first place Mt. San Antonio College, who compiled 98.5 team points. Cerritos entered more than one competitor in several weight classes, with their "B" team producing 66 team points, which put them in fifth place. The team will open Southwest Conference action on October 13 with a 7:00 p.m. home match against Rio Hondo College.

In addition to winning three weight titles, Cerritos also finished in second place in three others. Freshman Kimo Servino (Carson HS), who was part of the "B" team, captured the title of the 141-pound weight classification. He posted four wins for the championship, which included an 11-5 win over Victor Valley College's Jose Cisneros in the championship match. Requiring three wins to win the championship was freshman Caolite Drury (Westminster HS) at 149 pounds, who posted pins in each match. He opened by pinning Billy Looney of Mt. San Antonio in 2:47 and then needed 2:29 to finish off Mark Martinez of Mt. SAC. In the finals, Drury pinned teammate Felix Osorio (Santa Fe HS) in :30 seconds, while Osorio won his first two matches via the pinfall before a tough 6-5 win over Kendall Frank of Sacramento City College sent him to the finals.

Winning his second straight tournament title was freshman Jonovan Smith (Birmingham Charter HS) at 285 pounds. After a first round bye, Smith pinned Carter Heiss in 2:42 before earning a 13-5 win over Corbin Hayes of Bakersfield College. In the championship match, Smith finished off Nathan Ramos of East Los Angeles College, 7-4 for the title.

Defending 125-pound state champion Jonathan Prata (Downey HS) competed at 133 pounds and was on his way to the championship until he had to injury default out in the finals. He opened with a pin and followed with a pair of 9-6 victories, but did not get the chance to take on Jason Valencia of Mt. SAC in the championship match. Teammate Josh Mendoza (Warren HS) placed third after coming up through the consolation round with four consecutive wins, with two of them by pinfall.

At 174 pounds, freshman Stone Robledo (Villa Park HS) won his first two matches by pin and then defeated Liam Leckie of Sacramento City to reach the finals. He was pinned by Mt. SAC's Wetzel Hill in 2:02 and settled for second place.
