Returning to Southwest Conference action after a tournament, the Cerritos College wrestling team handled host Palomar College, 35-9 on Wednesday night. The Falcons (7-2, 2-1) will travel to Fresno City College for the Bill Musick Open this Saturday which will give them an opportunity to see as many different wrestlers that they will encounter in the coming weeks toward the state championship.

Cerritos earned three wins over the Comets by pin, as well as one technical fall. Earning the first pin was sophomore Jonathan Prata (Downey HS), who returned to action after overcoming an injury and earned the first period pin at 133 pounds. Prata is the defending state champion at 125 pounds. Freshman Armando Murillo (Rowland HS) was also able to end his match in the first period, as he finished off Daniel Hernandez to earn the Falcons six more team points. The night closed out with freshman 285-pound Jonovan Smith (Birmingham Charter HS) earning a win by pin, which helps secure his #1 ranking in the weight classification.

At 125 pounds, sophomore Isaiah Perez (Sonora HS) got the Falcons off on a good foot with a convincing 15-0 win, which also ended twice in the first period. Taking on Juan Diaz, Perez posted a pair of four-point near-falls in the first period. Also earning wins on the night for Cerritos were 157-pound Felix Osorio (Santa Fe HS), an 8-4 winner, 184-pound Joseph Rodriguez (Paramount HS), who defeated James Armando Rodriguez, and Justin Sawai (North Torrance HS), who turned in an 11-5 victory at 197 pounds.
