Women's swimming team placed fifth at the Golden West Invitational

The Cerritos College women's swimming team posted several good times at the Golden West Invitational on Friday. The end result was that the Falcons finished with 659 team points, which put them in fifth place on the day. They will open South Coast Conference action on Friday when Cerritos travels to East Los Angeles College to take on the Huskies and Chaffey College.

Leading the way for the Falcons was freshman Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS), who posted a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.56. She was joined by sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA) with a fifth place time of 1:08.53, while freshman Stephanie Alfaro (Gahr HS) was right behind in sixth place at 1:12.07. Loya also earned second place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.00) and 200-yard IM with a time of 1:08.06.

As for Harvey, she posted a time of 1:06.76 to finish in fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke, while her time of 1:12.49 put her in eighth place in the 100-yard IM. Sophomore Teresa Zuniga (California HS) also posted a fifth place time in the 50-yard breaststroke at 36.29.

The team also swam well in the relay events, with the quartet of Harvey, Zuniga, Loya and sophomore Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) coming in third place in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:35.08, while the same group posted a time of 2:04.85 to come in fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay. The same foursome competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay and their time of 4:13.56 put them in seventh place.

Serrano also finished ninth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:03.35, while she was 15th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.89).
