After coming in fifth place at the South Coast Conference Championships, the Cerritos College women's swimming team found out that two of their athletes have qualified for the CCCAA State Championships. The three-day event will take place at East Los Angeles College and run from May 1-3.
The two Falcons will compete in five total events, as freshman Amanda Loya (St. Joseph HS) will swim the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM. As for sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS), who will compete in the 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard backstroke.
Loya set a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke at the conference championships at 1:07.55, which qualified her with the ninth fastest time in the state this season. Her time of 2:15.02 places her 10th in the 200-yard IM, while she enters the state championships 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.37.
This is the second year in a row that Harvey has qualified for the state championships in both backstroke events and earned All-American honors in both her freshman season. She has the 10th fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.96), while her B Standard time of 28.93 in the 50-yard backstroke places her 17th in the event.
