On the strength of their 9-0 non-conference win over visiting Saddleback College on Friday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team won their fourth straight match. The Falcons (6-2, 3-0) resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio College (9-0, 3-0). The winner will have an early edge on the conference title.

In the win over the Gauchos (4-3), Cerritos won a pair of close doubles matches and overcame a pair of singles matches where they lost the first set.

In the #2 doubles match, the tandem of sophomore Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) and freshman Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia) pulled out an 8-6 decision, as did the duo of sophomore Merli Alcasid (Gahr HS) and freshman Katia Brambila (Bell HS).

At the top of the singles ladder, freshman Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) dropped the first set, 6-3 to Ashley Glick. But she was able to break Glick's serve in the second set for a 6-4 win and rode that momentum to a 6-2 win in the third set. Flores lost the first set, 6-4, to Maddie Serklew in the #4 position, but regrouped and took the second set, 6-1. She finished off the comeback with a 7-6 win in the third set.

Aside from those matches, the Falcons had the result in hand, with Khomyachenko (6-0, 6-1), Alcasid (6-2, 6-1) and Brambila (6-2, 7-5) winning in straight sets. Freshman Mariia Yatsenko (School 328, Ukraine) posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bahar Borna in the #3 match.
