Opening South Coast Conference play on Thursday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to host El Camino College. The Falcons (0-4, 0-1), still looking for their first win, will host Rio Hondo College at 2:00 p.m. next Thursday.

After dropping the first three team points in doubles play, Cerritos put themselves in position to make the match interesting. At the top of the singles ladder, sophomore Moa Lindström (Dragonskolan Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden) earned a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win to account for the team's lone point. However, freshman Alba Gonzalez (Colegio Madre Guadalupe, Venezuela) missed out on taking the first set in her #2 match against Madi Giese, and lost the tie-breaker, 10-4. She then dropped the second set, 6-1. As for freshman Yesenia Palacios (Long Beach Wilson HS), she earned a tie-breaker win in the second set, 10-2 after suffering a 6-1 loss in the first set of her #3 match. However, Palacios was unable to build on that and was defeated, 6-1 in the third set.
