Led by sophomore Moa Lindström (Dragonskolan Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden), who has advanced in both singles and doubles, the Cerritos College women's tennis team will be represented when the third day of the CCCAA State Championships gets underway on Saturday. The tournament is being held in Ojai and Ventura.
Lindström spent the morning advancing in singles play, while she and her doubles partner, freshman Alba Gonzalez (Colegio Madre Guadalupe, Venezuela), won two matches in the afternoon. Seeded #8 in singles, Lindström opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over #12-seeded Melanie Fisher of Solano College in the Round of 32 and followed that with a three-set 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-2 upset win over #4-seeded Tsukino Watanabe of Sierra College. On Saturday, Lindström will square off against #1-seeded Yu Seung Suh of Fullerton College in the quarterfinals in the morning.
Doubles play saw the #5-seeded Lindström and Gonzalez open the afternoon with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over unseeded Bailey Donine and Sydney Page of Saddleback College. They posted an imposing 6-0, 6-0 win over #4-seeded Molly Amico and Lisa Le of Fresno City College in the Round of 16. Their hands are full Saturday afternoon, as the pair will take on #1-seeded Miri Inoue and Nicole Knickerbocker of Orange Coast College in the quarterfinals.
