On Thursday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 non-conference win over Mesa (AZ) CC in a match that was added late to the schedule. The Thunderbirds were in California for a few matches, and when one of them was rained out, they were looking to schedule an opponent. The Falcons (3-5) were happy to accept and earned their third win in the last four matches. The team will resume South Coast Conference play next Thursday with a 2:00 p.m. match at Rio Hondo College.

Cerritos picked up two team points in doubles play with convincing wins. Neither team had a full compliment of players, so only two doubles and four singles matches were played. Competing in the #2 position on the singles ladder for the second match in a row, freshmn Yesenia Palacios (Long Beach Wilson HS) picked up her second straight win. She battled Paige Stanford and came away with a 6-4, 6-3 win, while freshman Alba Gonzalez (Colegio Madre Guadalupe, Venezuela) fought back in her #3 position for a 0-6, 6-3, 10-3 win that clinched the victory for the Falcons.

Palacios and freshman Selene Bayardo (Long Beach Millikan HS) recorded an 8-1 win in double action, while Gonzalez teamed with sophomore Moa Lindström (Dragonskolan Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden) for an 8-3 victory.
