For his efforts in leading the Cerritos College women's track and field team, assistant coach Lloyd Higgins was named the California Community College Athletic Association Women's Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year. Higgings helped guide freshman Destiny Mack-Talalemotu to win the state championship in the discus and shot put, as well as a second place in the javelin. All of the points the throwers compiled helped the Falcons come in second place at the state championships.

"It's very surprising, both times I've received it," said Higgings, who received the award in 2008, to another publication. "It's nice to realize that your peers and other coaches from the state recognize the time and effort you put in to vote for you. It's an honor."

Lloyd Higgins receives the Women's Track Assistant Coach of the Year for the second time Higgins (pictured, left), a member of the Falcon coaching staff since 2008, has coached both the men's and women's throwers over that period. In that time frame, Higgins has had three athletes win the state title in the discus, while one win the shot put and javelin. He has also assisted Alexus Dalton to the 2014 decathlon championship and place third this past season. Prior to coming to Cerritos, Dalton had never competed in the heptathlon.

During his tenure, Higgins has also seen five throwing school records broken and has 22 athletes put their name in the top five among the school's top marks. He has also led 39 of his athletes to the state championships.

"You've come into college and you learn to throw well because it's something totally new and refreshing," Higgins added. "You can find immediate success because you've never done it before."

Since his arrival in 2008, Higgins has helped the Falcon women's track and field team has win the state championship in 2008, 2009 and 2013, along with four Southern California Championships (2009-09, 2012-13) and four South Coast Conference championships (2008-09, 2013-14). In addition to their second place finish at the state championships in 2014, they tied for second in 2012, tied for third in 2010 and came in fourth place in 2011. Two second place finishes at the SoCal Championships and three conference second place finishes can also be attributed to the points compiled by the team's throwers.
