With the Southern California championship down to the final event, the Cerritos College women's track and field team earned 19 points to pull ahead of Riverside City College by two points on Saturday. The Falcons, who qualified 20 entries into the CCCAA State Championships at San Mateo College next weekend, compiled 133.50 team points, compared to 131.5 points for the Tigers.

Cerritos won six individual championships, with freshman Breanna Curry (University HS) winning the championship in the 110-meter HH and heptathlon, while sophomore Raiven Ellis (California HS) captured the triple jump and freshman Sisilia Puaka won the shot put. The quartet of Shukura Tyler (Warren HS), Najia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS), Brandy Navarro (Montebello HS) and Lauryn Ballard (Narbonne HS) won the 400-meter relay.

Although she came in fifth place, sophomore Ariel Melendez (St. Paul HS) set a new school record in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:39.29, while Vickers winning time in the 110-meter HH tied her for the second best time in school history at 14.37.
