W. Track & Field: Falcons competed at UNLV INvitational

For the second week in a row, the Cerritos College women's track team went up against four-year competition. On Saturday, the Falcons traveled out of state to take part in the UNLV Invitational and compiled 17 team points to come in ninth place. This weekend, they will head down to San Diego for the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational.

In the distance races, Cerritos had the most entries, with the tandem of Ariel Melendez (St. Paul HS) and Jocelyn Orozco (Downey HS) posting top 10 finishes in the 800 meters, Melendez won her heat with a time of 2:18.72, which was the eighth best time out of 23 total runners, while Orozco's ninth place time of 2:19.37 put her second place in the same heat. Najia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS) placed seventh in the 100-meters with a time of 12.44, which won her heat, while also placed 11th in the 200 meters in a time of 25.58.

Erica Davis (Fountain Valley HS) recorded a personal best height in the pole vault at 3.15 meters to tie for sixth place, with Raiven Ellis (California HS) placing third in the triple jump at 11.45 meters. She recorded that distance on her final attempt. Ariel Thomas (Warren HS) went 5.17 meters in the long jump and claimed eighth place overall.
