The Cerritos College women's track and field team opened the season by winning eight events at the Mt. San Antonio Season Opener on Friday. The Falcons, who will competed in multiple events next weekend, saw four of the first place finishes come in field events.

Sophomore Ariel Thomas (Warren HS) finished in first place in the long jump and was followed by a pair of teammates. Her distance of 5.26 meters defeated sophomores Raiven Ellis (California HS), who came in second place at 5.15 meters, and Stephanie Grant, who's leap of 5.06 meters earned her a third place finish. Thomas also took first place in the triple jump at 11.61 meters on her last attempt, with Ellis in second place at 11.17 meters.

Also winning a pair of events was freshman thrower Sisilia Puaka, who easily won the shot put at 12.02 meters, as well as the discus at 38.17 meters, which came on her final throw. Sophomore Taylor Hawkins (Narbonne HS) earned a pair of second place finishes in the high jump (1.42 meters) and javelin (32.03 meters).

In the running events, freshman Shukura Tyler (Warren HS) won the 400 meters with a time of 59.69, with freshman teammate Najia Hudspeth (Kennedy HS) in second place at 1:01.69 and sophomore Jenai Vickers (Lakewood HS) taking third place in 1:02.45. It was a time of 5:04.98 that easily win the 1500 meters for sophomore Jocelyn Orozco (Downey HS), with freshman Breanna Curry winning the 100-meter hurdles in 15.06 and sophomore Jordan Agnew (Los Alamitos HS/Cal State Long Beach) in second place at 15.56.

The duo of sophomores Ariel Melendez and Janet Salazar (Paramount HS) took second (10:42.42) and third (10:54.20) places in the 3000 meters, respectively. The Falcons also turned in the top two times in the 400-meter relay and had four teams finish in the top six in the 1600-meter relay.
