With their three-set win over host Pasadena City College on Friday night, coupled with Mt. San Antonio College losing, the Cerritos College volleyball team now sits alone in second place in the South Coast Conference with five matches remaining. The Falcons (10-7, 7-2) disposed of the Lancers, 25-20, 25-14, 25-13 in a little over an hour. At the same time, the Mounties (10-7, 6-3) dropped a four-set decision to Long Beach City College (8-10, 5-4). Cerritos will be traveling to Mt. SAC on Wednesday for a critical 6:00 p.m. match.

In their win over Pasadena City, the Falcons fought back from an 11-6 deficit in the first game to take a 13-11 lead with sophomore Sara Hickman (La Mirada HS) recording a trio of kills and freshman Sandra Alvarado (Western HS) earning a pair of service aces. Cerritos would go on to lead the rest of the set to polish off the Lancers.

They opened up an early lead in the second set and rode their momentum to a convincing win, with sophomores Jasmynne Roberts (Long Beach Poly HS) and Lisa Villarroel (Long Beach Millikan/Long Beach City College) each posting five kills. The Lancers did take a 6-3 lead early in the third set, but kills from four different players put the Falcons in the lead. The score would get as close as 8-7, but Cerritos continued to expand on their lead and finished off the match.

Roberts led all players with 17 kills (three errors) and added 15 digs, with Hickman posting 11 kills and eight digs in the win. Villarroel contributed nine kills, along with two solo blocks and two block assists, with sophomore Jasmin Mitchell (Warren HS) finishing with four kills and two block assists. Sophomore setter Michelle Barba (Downey HS) recorded 34 assists, two kills and two service.
