Continuing the early stages of their season, the Cerritos College volleyball team dropped a four-set match to a much-improved Santa Ana College team on Wednesday night. The Falcons (3-2) will now host a 16-team tournament this weekend and will play three pool play matches on Friday, followed by the playoff format on Saturday.

In the loss to the Dons (4-0), Cerritos was within striking distance in each of the three sets they lost, and came close to extending the match to a fifth set, but dropped the fourth set, 23-25. They were looking for their second come-from-behind win of the season where they lost the first two sets. After Santa Ana won the first two sets, 25-22, 25-21, the Falcons posted a 25-22 win in the third set.

Sophomore Monica Vega (South Gate HS) led the team with 16 kills and also had 15 digs on the night. The trio of Jasmine McNeal (Long Beach Poly HS), Mary Keil (Long Beach Poly HS) and Grace Mendez (King City HS) all finished with six kills, while McNeal and Keil each recorded five blocks. Sophomore setter Lorinet Marquez (Cerritos HS/Providence College) dished out 35 assists, along with 11 digs and three kills, with sophomore Dymond Johnson (Gahr HS) contributing a team-high 17 digs in the loss.
