In their final South Coast Conference crossover match, the Cerritos College volleyball team suffered their second five-set loss of the season. The Falcons (8-11), who have also won four five-set matches, dropped a 18-25, 25-20, 25-14, 19-25, 10-15 decision to Chaffey College (5-15) on Friday. The team will play their final four South Division games to close out the season, starting with a 6:00 p.m. match at El Camino College next Wednesday.

After a troublesome first set, Cerritos seemed to turn things around with wins in the next two sets. But they weren't able to maintain their advantage and after dropping the fourth set, and saw the Panthers open the final set with a 4-1 lead and were never able to get any closer. In fact, after winning that third set, Cerritos did not lead at any point the remainder of the night.

The five-set loss overshadowed several strong performances by the Falcons, including sophomore Jasmine McNeal (Long Beach Poly HS), who had 13 kills and just one attack error. Sophomore Monica Vega (South Gate HS) led the team with 17 kills, 17 digs and four service aces, while sophomore Mary Keil (Long Beach Poly HS) finished with 15 kills and 14 digs.

Sophomore setter Lorinet Marquez (Cerritos HS/Providence, CA College) recorded 55 assists and had eight digs, with freshman Grace Mendez (King City HS) contributing nine kills. The Panthers were led by a trio of players with double-digit kills.
