On Thursday, the Cerritos College volleyball team concluded their season with a three-set sweep over Los Angeles Harbor College in a South Coast Conference South Division match. The 25-15, 25-19, 26-24 win over the Seahawks ends the Falcons record at 10-13 overall and 1-6 in divisional play.

The team opened the match fast against LA Harbor (3-21, 1-6) and led 12-4 early on in the first set, with the match starting on a service ace by sophomore Rocio Rojo-Perez (Bellflower HS). Cerritos also took advantage of eight attacking errors against the Seahawks, while receiving five kills from sophomore Monica Vega (South Gate HS).

They cruised to the first set win and slowly pulled away in the second set after the teams traded the first 14 points for a 7-7 score. A kill by Vega put the team in the lead for good, as the Falcons hit 29% and received consecutive kills from sophomore Jasmine McNeal (Long Beach Poly HS), freshman Grace Mendez (King City, CA HS) and sophomore Lorinet Marquez (Cerritos HS/Providence, CA College) to take a 15-10 advantage.

Los Angeles Harbor finally took their first lead of the match when they broke a 15-15 tie in the third set. The teams traded points to stay tied until 20-20 until the Seahawks opened a 22-20 advantage. An attack error, followed by a service ace from sophomore Mary Keil (Long Beach Poly HS) tied the set at 22-22. Coming out of a Seahawks timeout, the Falcons were called for a blocking error, while Vega put away a kill to tie the match at 23-23.

The 15th service error against Cerritos gave the Seahawks a 24-23 lead until McNeal and Mendez posted consecutive kills. Mendez then served up an ace to close out the match, 26-24.

Vega finished the night with 17 kills and a .538 hitting percentage, while Mendez posted eight kills, with McNeal recording six kills. Marquez dished out 36 assists to go with three kills, three aces and five digs, with Keil adding four kills.
