Playing the entire game without any subs, the Cerritos College women's water polo team held even with host Ventura College for the first half of their game on Thursday. The Falcons (0-1), playing their first game of the season, dropped a 17-12 decision and were outscored, 11-6 in the second half. The team will now play two games on Friday and Saturday at the Cuesta Tournament.

Heading into halftime, Cerritos and the Pirates were tied, 6-6 after freshman Anabell Magana (Downey HS) scored on a power play with :11 seconds remaining. However, Ventura came out in the third quarter and scored the next five goals of the game, which would turn out to be the margin of victory. The Falcons stopped the run with a Magana goal, while she added another in the quarter, with sophomore Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) also scoring twice in the third quarter.

It was a 13-11 deficit early in the fourth quarter after a Magana goal, but Ventura countered with four consecutive goals before sophomore Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS) closed out the scoring with :39 seconds remaining.

Romero led the team with six goals, while Magana had three goals. The tandem of Glynn and sophomore Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) each assisted on three goals, with freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Sorrells (Bell Gardens HS) turning away seven shots.
