In their first game of the one-day Cerritos Mini-Tournament on Friday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team faced the state's top-ranked team, West Valley College. The Falcons suffered a 21-3 setback and followed that with an 11-5 loss against Palomar College. The team will travel to Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday for a :00 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
Cerritos vs. West Valley: The Falcons, who are the last team to defeat the Vikings (10-8 on October 30, 2021), surrendered the first 11 goals in this meeting before sophomore Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) scored on a power play. Sophomore Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) accounted for the second goal of the game right before the end of the first half, as the team trailed, 12-2. Alvarez scored two of the team's goals, with Romero assisting on two goals, while they each had a pair of steals, along with sophomore Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS). Freshman goalie Alyssa Sorrells (Bell Gardens HS) posted eight saves in the match.

Cerritos vs. Palomar: In their second match of the day, the Falcons trailed 4-0 to the Comets before getting on the board. Freshman Melissa Prata (Downey HS) accounted for the team's first four goals, with three of them coming from long distance. It was 18 turnovers by Cerritos that hurt their chances of getting back in the game, as they trailed, 7-3 at halftime and could only add two more goals in the second half. Prata finished with a season-high four goals and also turned in four steals, while Alvarez and Glynn each recorded three steals in the game. Sorrells, who added nine saves, ranks second in the state with 173 saves on the year.
