With a chance to move into a tie for second place in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College women's water polo team fell short in an 8-6 decision against host Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday. With the loss, the Falcons (6-12, 4-2) sit in third place with two tournaments and one conference match remaining before the SCC Tournament. Cerritos will serve as one of the three hosts of the Battle at the Beach on Friday and Saturday. They will host Saddleback College at 8:00 a.m. in their first game.

Both teams played tight defensively through the first half, with the Mounties (12-7, 6-0) taking a 3-2 lead into halftime. Cerritos received single goals in each of the first two periods, with a man advantage goal coming from Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS) in the first and a goal from freshman Melissa Prata (Downey HS) in the second.

However, in the third quarter, the Falcons surrendered four consecutive goals before sophomore Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) scored with 1:25 remaining to end the run by Mt. SAC. A goal by Prata to open the fourth quarter drew Cerritos to within 7-4, with the Mounties coming right back on their next possession to get the goal back. The Falcons shut out Mt. San Antonio the remainder of the game and received goals from Prata and sophomore Jillian Crockett (Cerritos HS) to get the score to 8-6. But that's where the score would remain the rest of the game.

Prata posted three goals, while sophomore Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) assisted on three of the team's goals. Freshman Alyssa Sorrells (Bell Gardens HS) turned away 10 shots against the Mounties.
