After a frustrating start to the 2022 season, the Cerritos College women's water polo team opened their conference schedule at home with a 15-3 win over Rio Hondo College on Wednesday. The win by the Falcons (1-5, 1-0) was their first on the season, as three of their setbacks this year were by a total of four goals. The team will host Chaffey College in a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference match next Wednesday.

The Roadrunners (0-7, 0-1) scored the first goal of the game, but Cerritos went on to score the next seven goals on the day, including three straight from sophomore Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) over the last 1:45 of the first quarter and another early in the second quarter. It was a 10-2 lead at intermission, and 12-2 after five different players scored consecutive goals.

By the end of the game, Romero had a game-high five goals, while sophomore Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS) contributed three goals, three steals and a pair of assists. A trio of players scored twice, with sophomore Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) recording four assists. As a team, the Falcons had 14 steals, as freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Sorrells (Bell Gardens HS) led the way with four to go along with her 13 saves.
