As one of five full teams at the Coach Downey Classic in San Diego on Friday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in second place. The Falcons, who had the second overall finisher, compiled 44 team points and trailed only UNLV, with two of the five complete teams being four-year schools. Next Friday, the team will return to San Diego for the San Diego Mesa Invitational.
Freshman Lauren Berg (Fountain Valley HS) finished the course in a time of 19:13, which placed her second out of the 41 total runners and helped the team come in second place. A little over a minute later, it was Tracy Acevedo (Santa Fe HS) who completed the course with clocking of 20:40, good for seventh place overall. Running close down the stretch, a pair of Falcons turned in times that were one second apart. Isabel Orosco (Schurr HS) finished in 10th place overall with her time of 20:59, while Charlotte Barrera (El Rancho HS) was 11th in 21:00.
The final three runners for Cerritos were Natalie Juarez (Norwalk HS), whose time of 22:00 put her in 18th place, with Valeria Guerra (Warren HS) seeing her time 23:33 see her come in 24th place, and Maggie Quinones (Downey HS) turning in a time of 25:03, good for 30th place.
