Led by freshman Lauren Berg (Fountain Valley HS), the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in fourth place at the Southern California Championships, which were held at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley on Friday. Berg, who also took fourth place in the race, helped the Falcons compile 147 team points with a time of 18:20.6 over the 5K course. The team will now compete in the CCCAA State Championships on November 20 at Woodward Park in Fresno. Earlier in the season, Berg won the Fresno Invitational over 91 other entries.

In the SoCal Championships, Berg was squaring off against College of the Canyons runner Daniella Salcedo, who had turned in the best time in Southern California up to the meet. Salcedo did win the overall title with a personal best time of 17:55.1, while her other biggest competition came from Ventua College's Stina Johannson, who posted a second place time of 18:03.4. Although Berg posted her best time of the season, so did the other two, along with San Diego Mesa College's Yahaira Zuniga, whose time of 18:08.5 secured third place.

Next to complete the course for the Falcons was Tracy Acevedo (Santa Fe HS), who turned in a time of 19:58.3, which put her in 26th place overall out of 125 finishers, while Charlotte Barrera (El Rancho HS) was the next Cerritos runner to finish with a time of 20:21.9, good for 38th place.

The next two runners to help compile the team score were Isabel Orosco (Schurr HS) and Natalie Juarez (Norwalk HS), who finished just a half-second apart. Orosco was the 46th runner with a clocking of 20:32.0, with Juarez in 47th overall with her time of 20:32.6. Also competing for Cerritos were Valeria Guerra (Warren HS) with a 74th place time of 21:57.2 and Maggie Quinones (Downey HS) with a time of 25:09.6, good for 112th place.
