M. Track & Field: Cerritos continues to perform well at meets

Continuing their strong season, the Cerritos College men's track and field team performed well at the Arnie Robinson Invitational on Saturday. Held at San Diego Mesa College, the location for the CCCAA State Championships, the Falcons turned in some strong marks. They will have two entries in this week's Southern California Decathlon Championships, which will be held at Falcon Stadium on Tuesday at Wednesday, as will the Cerritos Invitational on Saturday.

In the field events, freshman Blair Robinson (Kennedy HS) came in second place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.40 meters, while teammate Vincent Calhoun (Long Beach Poly HS) posted the fifth best mark at 14.04 meters. Freshman Stacy Chukwumezie (Downey HS) finished in eight place in the long jump at 6.82 meters, while pole vaulter Nicholas Mendoza (Norwalk HS) cleared 4.50 meters to tie for third place, with Danny Barrios (Long Beach Jordan HS) clearing 4.05 meters.

Freshman thrower Isaiah Chavez (Downey HS) placed seventh out of 22 entries in the shot put with a toss of 12.76 meters, with freshman Clinton Anderson (Paramount HS) coming in sixth place in the discus with a distance of 43.85 meters. Sophomore hammer throwers Alejandro Cuellar (Long Beach Millikan HS) and Brian King (Cerritos HS), along with Chavez and Semaj Coates (Paramount HS) placed third through sixth place in the hammer. Sophomore Tristan Escobar (Bell Gardens HS) recorded the second best javelin throw of the day with a distance of 51.30 meters.

Sophomore Dario Robinson (Schurr HS) won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38, which was just shy of his personal best time of 14.35. In the 800 meters, freshman Christopher Donawa (Long Beach Poly HS) finished in third place with a time of 1:56.27, while Keith Turner (Centennial, NV HS) saw his time of 1:589.92 earn him a fifth place finish. Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS) completed the 1500 meters in 4:04.38 to come in second place, with Alejandro Rios (Chino HS) coming in a tie for third place in the 5000 meters in 15:58.50.
