Cerritos College head softball coach Kodee Murray always had the utmost respect for former head coach Nancy Kelly, who has the field named in her honor. In the Falcons 14-1, 5-inning win over visiting Glendale College on Tuesday, Murray surpassed Kelly with her 503rd career win in just her 17th season. The team will now play their next three games on the road, starting with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Santa Ana College on Friday.

After spotting the Vaqueros (1-3-1) a 1-0 lead, Cerritos scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. They took advantage of a pair of errors, with the first two runs coming from a throwing error, while freshman Nicoal Magdaleno (La Habra HS) drove in the third run with a base hit. They picked up three more runs in the second inning and capitalized on two more Glendale errors. The Falcons drew three walks in the stanza, with driving in a run with the bases loaded.

Sophomore catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) provided the big blow in an eight-run third inning with a three-run home run to give the team a 9-1 advantage. Sophomore second baseman Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) drove in freshman Allisyn Udell (Whittier Christian HS) with a double, with freshman shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS), freshman outfielder Kayla Aros (Torrance HS) and sophomore pinch-hitter Tatyana Peko (La Habra HS) all driving in runs before the end of the inning.

Freshman pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) allowed three hits the rest of the game after surrendering a solo home run in the first inning. She retired 11 straight batters at one point to earn the win. The trio of Lopez, Vega and Magdaleno each had a pair of hits on the day.
