Sophomore catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) erased a 2-0 deficit against Santa Ana College on Friday with a fourth-inning grand slam to propel the Cerritos College softball team to a 6-2 win. The victory moved the Falcons to 3-1 on the season, with the team traveling to Chaffey College on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference crossover game.

The Dons (0-2) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a lead. But in the top of the fourth inning, freshman Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS) singled with one out and moved to second base when sophomore Tatyana Peko (La Habra HS) drew a walk. The bases became loaded when freshman pinch-hitter Nicoal Magdaleno (La Habra HS) singled deep into the hole at shortstop, which set the table for Lopez. She drove everyone in with her second home run of the season.

Freshman pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) held Santa Ana in check, as she improved to 3-1 on the year after striking out seven. She did allow a third run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, but stranded a pair of runners on base to end the threat.

Cerritos added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning when Peko singled home pinch-runner Andrea Villalta (Norwalk HS), while the second run scored on a throwing error. Freshman Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) tripled home pinch-runner Breanna Larez (El Rancho HS), who came in for freshman Kayla Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) after her base hit. Lopez, Peko and Spoolstra all had two hits on the day.
