After posting a 22-16 regular season record and a second place finish in the South Coast Conference South Division, the Cerritos College softball team has been seeded #9 for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons will travel to #8-seeded College of the Canyons for a best-of-three series, with the first game scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The second game will be played at noon on Saturday with a third 'if necessary' game slated for 2:00 p.m.

This marks the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with Cerritos recording a 16-7, 6-inning mercy rule win back on April 14. In that game, sophomore Briana Lopez went 2-for-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and seven RBI. Freshman outfielder Brianna Spoolstra collected three hits in the game, with freshman shortstop Tena Spoolstra, freshman third baseman Kayla Hernandez, freshman designated player Deja Sendejas and sophomore second baseman Rain Vega all added a pair of hits.

The Falcons have been paced this year by Lopez and her 18 HR, 59 RBI and .383 batting avergage, while Brianna Spoolstra leads the team with a .450 batting average, along with 35 RBI. Hernandez is hitting .400 with 29 RBI, while freshman pitcher Sierra Gerdts (16-11) and Allisyn Udell (6-5) have handled the pitching. College of the Canyons are led by the duo of Heidi Ludy (.432, 31 RBI) and Danielle Chatman (.424, 10 HR, 49 RBI), while Jordan Vallejo has driven in 41 runs this season. Both Katie Taix (10-4) and Joy Veloz (10-5) have won 10 games in the circle this year.

The Cougars (26-14) won the Western State Conference East Division title with a 16-0 record and have faced 15 teams that have advanced to the post-season. The recorded an 8-11 record, while the Falcons went 7-16 against 14 teams that earned playoff nods.
