Powering her way back into second place in the state in home runs, Cerritos College sophomore catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) added two more to her total on Friday against Citrus College. Lopez, who now has 12 home runs this season, also drove in six runs, as the Falcons (14-10) defeated the host Owls, 11-3 in five innings. Cerritos will now embark on another four-game week and will open by hosting Los Angeles Mission College at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.

Lopez, who's also closing in on the school-record for most home runs in a season (20), led off the game with a round-tripper and when the Falcons batted around in their seven-run first inning, cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Lopez then activated the eight-run mercy rule when she clubbed a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning. The six RBI set a new career record, while it was the third time Lopez hit two home runs in a game in her career.

After withstanding a bottom of the first inning, where the Owls (14-13) got two of the runs back, freshman pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) scattered five outs over the next four innings to earn the win. Gerdts also drove in a run at the plate.

With the leadoff home run in the books, the Falcons went to work offensively in the first inning. With one out, freshman outfielder Brianna Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) drew a walk, followed by a single from freshman first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS). Cerritos then scored the next six runs with two outs, with freshman shortstop Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS) getting it started with an RBI single, followed by a walk to Gerdts. Sophomore designated player Tatyana Peko (La Habra HS) drove in a pair with a double, with sophomore second baseman Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS) getting hit by a pitch. That set the table for Lopez and her three-run double.

In the top of the second inning, Cerritos loaded the bases on a walk to Spoolstra, while Bolinas reached base on an error. Freshman third baseman Kayla Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) followed with a base hit, with Sendejas driving in a run with a sacrifice fly. Gerdts then drove in her first run of the season with a base hit.
