Former Cerritos College women's track and field stars Najia and Nylia Hudspeth, who led the team to consecutive CCCAA State Championships, have now led UNLV to their first-ever Mountain West Conference Indoor championship. Both seniors for the Rebels, the twins were a part of the school's record-setting 4x400-meter relay championship team that set the third fastest time in Mountain West Championship history and fourth fastest in Mountain West Conference history with a winning time of 3:38.65. Additionally, Najia won the 400 meters with a personal record time of 54.07, which was also the fourth best time in UNLV history. As for Nylia, she placed fifth in the race (55.97). As a team, the Rebels recorded 99 team points and posted a 14-point advantage over second place Colorado State University.
While with the Falcons from 2015-16, Najia Hudspeth set the school record in the 200 meters (23.67), while her time of 11.63 in the 100 meters is the third fastest in school history in 2016. She also holds the fifth fastest time in the 400 meters at 55.19. While part of the 4x400-meter relay team, the duo ran the second and third legs of a quartet that set a new school record with a clocking of 3:45.71, while they are half of the 4x100-meter relay team that turned in the fifth fastest time of 46.00.
During the 2016 season, Najia won the state title in the 200 meters, with Nylia coming in third place. They accounted for half of the fourseome that won the state title in the 400-meter relays, and took third in the 1600-meter relays. As for Nylia, she also finished third in the 200 meters. Najia won the Southern California championship in the 100 meters, 200 meters and both relay events that season, while Nylia was also a member of both relay teams and finished in second place in the 400 meters.
As freshmen, Najia was a member of the 400-meter relay team that finished second at the state championships, while she took fifth place in the 200 meters. Additionally, she came in second place at the Southern California Championships in the 100 meters and 200 meters, while the 400-meter relay team finished in first place. The duo also were members of the 1600-meter relay team that finished fourth at the state championships, with Nylia coming in second place in the 400 meters and in third place in the 200 meters at the South Coast Conference Championships.
