Once again, using big innings to score their runs, the Cerritos College baseball team scored all the runs they in two innings, as they posted an 8-5, 10-inning win over host El Camino College on Thursday. With the South Coast Conference victory, the Falcons (16-4, 7-1) have now won seven games in a row and will look to complete the sweep over the Warriors at noon on Saturday at Kincaid Field.

Leading 4-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. the Warriors (8-11, 3-5) were able to score a pair of runs against sophomore Cade Sonoqui (Long Beach Millikan HS) to send the game to extra innings.

In the 10th inning, Cerritos was able to score four times against relief pitcher Gavin Grace. Sophomore first baseman Mike Santos (Servite HS) singled with one out and after freshman outfielder Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS) was hit by a pitch, the Falcons had runners at first and second base. Freshman pinch-hitter Juan Garcia (Narbonne HS) walked to load the bases, which set the table for sophomore third baseman Anthony Bassett (Colegio Bautista de Managua, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College), who singled to drive in the first two runs of the inning. An error on the play brought home the third run, with sophomore Marlon Oviedo (Colegio Parroquial San Rafael N#1, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College) lacing a single to plate the fourth run and give Cerritos an 8-4 lead.

El Camino got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning, but Sonoqui (1-1) earned the win after three innings of relief. He struck out four batters on the day.

In a four-run fifth inning that put Cerritos in front, 4-0, Rios led off with a double and advanced to third base on a one-out single by Bassett. The first run came home in a sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Diego Orozco (Long Beach Wilson HS), while the Falcons had runners on first and second after a single by sophomore outfielder Nico Briones (Long Beach Millikan HS).

Sophomore shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College) made it a 2-0 game with an RBI double, with the final two runs coming home on a fielding error by El Camino second baseman Lucas Bonham.

Freshman starting pitcher Myles Johnson (Katella HS) breezed through the first five innings, as he limited El Camino to three hits and kept them off the scoreboard. He allowed both of his runs in the bottom of the sixth, as two of the three walks he issued came around to score. He got Angel Gonzalez to strike out on a full count with the bases loaded to end the threat. A single and walk in the seventh inning didn't amount to any more damage and Johnson capped off the day by going seven innings and allowed six hits, while striking out five batters.

Cerritos threatened to add to their lead in the seventh inning, but hit into a double play with the bases loaded.

Briones posted his first career four-hit game, as he went 4-for-5 and scored a run, while Massey was 2-for-4 with a stolen base, RBI and scored a run.
