Scoring runs in bunches, the Cerritos College baseball team recorded a 20-1 South Coast Conference win over host Compton College on Thursday afternoon. The win secured the Falcons (27-5, 15-2) their sixth straight conference series of the season and was the most runs in a game since a 22-17 victory over the Tartars on April 4, 2019. The victory also catapulted Cerritos into first place in the SCC after Long Beach City College dropped an 8-6 game against Mt. San Antonio College.

After a scoreless first inning, Cerritos went on to score in each of the next eight innings. In a five-run second inning, four consecutive walks drove in the first run of the game. After sophomore shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College) was hit by a pitch, the second run scored, with freshman catcher Alonso Reyes (Culver City HS) also bringing home a run with a walk. A sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS) and a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore first baseman Mike Santos (Servite HS) made it a 5-0 lead.

The Tartars scored once in the bottom of the second inning, but the Falcons countered with three in the third inning on a bases loaded double and error from Reyes. Sophomore third baseman Anthony Bassett (Colegio Bautista de Managua, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College) clubbed a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it a 9-1 game.

Sophomore starting pitcher Franky Lopez (Dominguez HS) tossed the first six innings to earn the win to improve to 8-0, as he allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight batters. The trio of Keanu Rodriguez (Los Altos HS), Daniel Saenz (Warren HS) and Nick Toney (Cerritos HS/East Los Angeles College) each tossed one inning to close out the game.

By the end of the game, the Falcons had 18 hits and drew seven walks to account for their 20 runs. Reyes drove in a season-high five runs, while Massey was 3-for-5 with four runs scored, three RBI and recorded a pair of doubles. All nine starters registered at least one hit, while Bassett was 2-for-4 with two walks, three runs scored and a pair of RBI.

The win also gave several players a chance to contribute offensively, as freshmen Evan Saito (Torrance HS) drove in a pair of runs and Andy Cisneros (Warren HS) added an RBI hit.
